Con la segunda y tercera entrega de Ultimate Endgame llegamos al ecuador de la miniserie que dará carpetazo a la realidad de la Tierra-6160. Deniz Camp ya no los advirtió en el primer capítulo y el devenir del argumento ha confirmado lo que apuntamos en el anterior artículo. Ultimate Endgame compete solo a los Ultimates.

 

«Howard lo intentó en cuatro ocasiones»

 

La inutilidad de la spider-familia queda corroborada en el desarrollo de estos dos capítulos, sobre todo en lo que compete a Peter. Su familia, a través del Paper aún tienen cierta relevancia en la creación de mundo. Y es que, si bien la trama principal se concentra en la cúpula fuera del tiempo que encierra la Ciudad del Hacedor, en paralelo el guionista ilustra la batalla a lo largo y ancho del globo de los Ultimates contra las fuerzas leales al Hacedor y su Consejo.

 

La idea es interesante porque tiene la intención de abarcar los dos grandes frentes del conflicto. El problema es que la ejecución -de momento- no saca provecho del poso político que quiso imprimirle Camp al desenlace de los Ultimates. Con la trama de la Ciudad ocupando el principal foco de atención, la trama del resto del mundo queda reducida a un carrusel del resto de series de la línea. Así, si en el número inicial tuvimos una dosis importante de la familia de Spidey, en el segundo es Wakanda y Killmonger quien toma el relevo y en el tercero las mutantes de Peach Momoko hacen lo propio.

 

Camp nos dice “¡Eh, Ultimate Endgame implica a todas las colecciones!”, pero la realidad es que las apariciones de los personajes no Ultimates parecen más un ejercicio de fanservice que otra cosa. Las interacciones de estas estrellas invitadas adolecen del ejercicio de integración que no se hizo durante Los Ultimates, porque aquí la magnitud de la batalla impide que este pueda llevarse a cabo de forma orgánica.

 

Respecto a la trama principal, esta requerirá una relectura cuando la miniserie se haya completado. Camp riza el rizo y entonces enreda aún más de tal forma que en la lectura mensual perdemos detalles. Hay muchos (y liosos) conceptos que se exponen de manera confusa y artificiosamente enrevesada. Esto tiene cierta justificación en el caso de Howard Stark, quien tras tantísimo tiempo encerrado en la Ciudad se ha vuelto loco y su mente no discurre de forma lineal. Pero cuando personajes como Tony o Reed son quienes lideran las explicaciones estas no resultan más clarificadoras y acabamos los episodios sin tener muy clara la naturaleza de la amenaza a la que se enfrentan nuestros protagonista, restándole impacto a algunas de las palomiteras sorpresas que nos tiene reservadas en escritor.

 

Ahora que encaramos la recta final (restan solo dos capítulos) suponemos que las diferentes ideas empezarán a concretarse y aclararse.
