En 2000 El jardín de la alegría (Saving Grace) narraba los pesares de una mujer que al enviudar debía hacer frente a varias deudas. Para pagarlas convertía su invernadero en una plantación de marihuana. El postre de la alegría (Paulette) es un remake francés de esa historia que tenía como protagonista a una espléndida Brenda Blethyn. La nueva versión se torna más pilla y con más movimiento que la anterior.

 

El postre de la alegría es uno de los muchos homenajes que se pueden hacer a Breaking Bad ahora que ha llegado a su fin. Por supuesto, a la francesa. Su protagonista, Paulette, una mujer mayor cascarrabias y con problemas económicos, decide ponerse a vender costo para sacarse un dinero extra. Para poder llevar bien la actividad tendrá que esconderse de su familia que tiene problemas monetarios, y de su yerno que trabaja como policía. Y se busca tres compinches de su misma generación –unas encantadoras, Dominique Lavanant, Carmen Maura y Françoise Bertin–. Paulette es jubilada, pero eso no quita que sea emprendedora, así que va más allá y decide aprovechar su talento culinario para crear repostería con el ilegal ingrediente. Y el éxito llega. ¿No les suena esta premisa de algo, fans de Heisenberg?

 

 

 

La actriz Bernadette Lafont deja una interpretación póstuma con un personaje que de puro mal genio resulta hasta encantadora –Lafont murió en julio de 2013 a causa de un fallo cardíaco–. Su Paulette tiene una vivacidad y amargura únicas; el guion ha sabido retratar mordazmente a esta mujer, cuyo pasado debió ser feliz al lado de su marido como muestran unas risueñas imágenes en super 8 del inicio. Pero la viudedad la ha convertido en una señora amargada que llega ahogada a final de mes. No se habla con su única hija ni con su cuñado negro. Por cierto, también es racista, de ahí que sus contestaciones a su nieto mulato sean de las más crueles a la par que graciosas.

 

Jérôme Enrico trae una comedia modesta y sencilla que trata un duro trasfondo pero que dulcifica con sus diálogos y personajes. El texto, escrito a cuatro manos (Bianca Olsen, Laurie Aubanel, Cyril Rambour y el propio Enrico), se desenvuelve bien durante el recorrido aunque caiga a veces en escenas casi desmesuradas, como unos matones dejándose atemorizar por unas ancianas, o la brillantez de la abuela para moverse en los suburbios del narcotráfico.

 

La cinta confeccionada es una comedia que alejándose del realismo puro hace una crítica a la situación que padecen muchos ancianos con unas pensiones mínimas, teniendo que hacer malabares para poder abastecerse; un final amargo que no merecen y que la sociedad cierra los ojos ante tal final en el que todos acaban.

 

El postre de la alegría no llegará a ser de los títulos galos más laureados, pero hace pasar un rato agradable. No es una película pretenciosa, es recomendable para pasar un rato ameno, y todo gracias a Paulette y sus chicas de Oro.
