A pesar de las muchas representaciones que se han hecho de Martin Luther King en el cine, la gran película sobre el pastor bautista todavía está por llegar. Selma es interesante por los hechos en los que se centra y que para muchos serán desconocidos, pero nos consigue enganchar al espectador, y lo que es más grave, no transmite el carisma que se le presupone a su protagonista.

 

 

El punto de vista en el cine es un arma de doble filo y hay que saber manejarlo convenientemente. Aquí se nos intenta ofrecer una visión caleidoscópica del conflicto que se presenta, quedando la importancia del protagonista relegada a momentos importantes, pero quizá no los suficientes. El presidente de los Estados Unidos, sus consejeros, los políticos de Alabama, los grupos a favor y en contra, los familiares y los compañeros de King: Todos tienen su momentos y todos están representados pero en un largometraje no todo tiene cabida y esto se convierte en el gran problema de la cinta.

 

Las dos horas de metraje resultan por momentos tediosas, al repasar los eventos sin querer dejar a nadie sin participación, en un producto que no tiene clara su naturelza y que debería haber hecho pensar a sus responsables en todos esos maravillosos documentales que exponen esta étapa de la vida de King con pelos y señales.

 

Las maravillosas interpretaciones de los actores y la magnifica producción del film, no consiguen hacer de Selma una gran película. A pesar de ser necesaria por lo que narra, no es más que una prueba más de que aún está por hacer el retrato definitivo de Martin  Luther King.
