El amor es un crimen perfecto, y a veces no sabe nada de suspense, o conoce quizá demasiado. Sea dulce o escabroso, enloquece y nos adentra en una espiral de dudas. Los hermanos Arnaud y Jean-Marie Larrieu se basan en este planteamiento y juegan con el espectador en este pausado thriller en bajas temperaturas. Tiran de una trama sugerente -basada en la novela de Philippe Djian-: un profesor de universidad asiduo a escarceos con sus alumnas. Una de ellas, Barbara, desaparece y Anna, la madrasta de la joven se pone en contacto con él para descubrir el paradero de su hija. Ese es el trasfondo, pero la forma es muy laberíntica: unas aulas diáfanas, níveas, muy acorde con el exterior (es invierno y están por las montañas, en Lausana concretamente), todo para conseguir un entorno opresivo, desalentador.

En el principio del metraje la película parece no ofrecer mucho. Se supone como un drama donde la intriga brilla por su ausencia pero que juega con la dirección de fotografía –los paisajes suizos dan mucho juego-. Pero la nieve esconde pistas y las mantiene frescas con el frío. La narrativa de la cinta sugiere, pero encubre más de lo que parece. El público debe permanecer atento.

Porque al contenido se le trata de una forma muy pulcra. Habla sobre sexo pero no hay ninguna escena explícita. Incide en el furor ardiente pero todo lo que se muestra está congelado, define un amor pero todo lo referido a sentimientos parece borrado. Todo tras un límpido marco, por supuesto, para ofrecer así vueltas de tuerca. No todo es tan claro a primera de cambio.

Mathieu Almaric es la mejor selección para el febril personaje. Un actor que puede parecer un mafioso, una mosquita muerta, alguien endeble o un tipo ambivalente. En esta producción le toca ser un perturbado que carga con muchos fantasmas interiores; el francés con poco sabe transmitir mucho. Este Don Juan oscuro que ha creado está rodeado de mujeres: todas bellas y rememorando al estereotipo de belleza gala, tan sexys y elegantes (para muestra el descaro de la actriz Sara Forestier en la piel de pupila). El elenco estudiantil se siente atraído por este carismático profesor de universidad, encanto del que se contagia también Anna (una atractiva Maïwenn), e incluso a su hermana Marianne (una enigmática Karin Viard), relación que entabla otro enigma.

Algo más de brío hubiera sido de agradecer, sobre todo para los poco acostumbrados al ritmo sosegado tan del cine de antaño, que es al que parece emular. Pero gracias a su brillante desenlace, el espectador coge un poco de calor al salir de la proyección.
