Si el tomo anterior era un ejemplo de cómo situar una serie en el contexto del nuevo universo DC y dotarla de una identidad propia que pudiera funcionar con independencia, este segundo volumen lo tira todo por tierra y lanza sus redes a cuantas colecciones puede para que estas penetren en ella y conviertan la lectura en una odisea para el lector. Con continuas referencias a las series Stormwatch y Green Lantern y la influencia de estas en la trama de Red Lanterns, es imposible hacerse una imagen general de lo que ocurre. La historia puede seguirse sin mayor complicación, eso es cierto, pero la serie está demasiado vinculada a los acontecimientos del universo cósmico de DC, impidiendo así su pleno disfrute.

 

 

Red Lanterns #2 sigue a Atrocitus en su vendetta personal y termina de configurar el contexto en el que se mueve la serie. Para ello Milligan vuelve al pasado del personaje y de su enemigo, aborda en sus motivaciones y en el origen del cuerpo de Red Lanterns. Junto a él, Jack Moore es quien centra la atención del autor, un lantern que no despierta excesivo interés. Si en su transformación ya parecía un personaje anodino, ahora demuestra tener muy poco carisma. Si el futuro de la franquicia depende de él, el rojo va a empezar a teñirse de negro. Más aún cuando a Bleez tampoco la dejan despuntar en la trama que protagoniza. Por lo general los protagonistas están demasiado ensimismados en sus pensamientos, normal cuando los «villanos» de turno no tienen enjundia y toda la atención está centrada en el evento que está por venir: La ascensión del Tercer Ejército. Y es que, en el fondo, este Red Lanterns #2 no deja de ser un tomo de transición hacia sagas de mayor relevancia.

 

Y si en el guión Peter Milligan muestra todas sus debilidades, en el dibujo la salida de Diego Bernard es todo un acierto. Especialmente Miguel Sepúlveda logra darle a Atrocitus y los monstruos que componen los red lanterns, el terrorífico aspecto que merecen.
