Era una de las insistentes peticiones desde que Panini Cómics se hizo con las licencias de DC Comics en España y no han podido elegir mejor momento para reeditar Supergirl: (La) Mujer del mañana, acercándola lo máximo posible al estreno de su adaptación fílmica. Lo hacen, además, con una cuidada edición «premium» con sobrecubierta y un tamaño sensiblemente superior al del comic-book tradicional, el mismo que usan para las ediciones omnibus.

Obra de Tom King y Bilquis Evely, esta miniserie protagonizada por Supergirl (por Kara Zor-El, cuidado con confundirla con otros personajes que han asumido su manto) se plantea como una historia autónoma, sin injerencias de la continuidad del momento y accesible para cualquier tipo de lector. El objetivo de sus autores es el de concebir un relato fundamental (si no, fundacional) para el personaje, una aventura que ayude a redefinir a Supergirl y aporte cimientos fuertes sobre los que construir.

 

A través de la narración que hace un personaje externo (una chica que acompaña a la kriptoniana durante meses a lo largo y ancho del universo), asistimos a un retrato de Kara alejado de la sombra de su primo Kal-El. Es más, en los dos o tres momentos puntuales en los que se cita al hombre de acero es para poner en valor a nuestra protagonista, porque por más que tengamos a Superman en el pedestal más alto del panteón de súper héroes, nunca podrá comparar su fortaleza con la de Kara.

 

 

Lo que nos dicen Evely y King es que la última hija de Krypton es una mujer hecha a sí misma, que lejos de derrumbarse al ser testigo directo de la muerte de su mundo, apostó por la esperanza. Pocos personajes en el medio han perdido tanto y de forma tan dolorosa y han sido capaces de levantarse para luchar un día más. Pero cómo señalábamos, lo dicen a través de un personaje ajeno a Supergirl, con lo que es a través de los ojos de esta chica cómo conocemos a Supergirl. Es decir, vemos la imagen proyectada de la heroína, lo que transmite a quienes la rodean.

 

Así, es posible que solo podamos imaginar una pizca del peso real que lleva sobre sus hombros. Y solo con eso ya nos parece un personaje asombroso. ¿Cómo de profundas serán realmente sus heridas y cuánto esfuerzo ha de hacer para no sucumbir a ellas? King y Evely la definen a través de sus actos. Son estos los que cimientan lealtades inquebrantables y forjan leyendas mediante simples gestos. Y en un relato que abarca decenas de mundos alienígenas imaginad las vidas sobre las que podría llegar a influir la kriptoniana.

 

Supergirl: (La) Mujer del mañana es un cómic muy divertido, cargado de acción y de escenas y mundos realmente imaginativos (Bilquis Evely ha exprimido sus capacidades como pocas veces antes); pero es sobre todo un cómic que apela al corazón de Supergirl, un relato que nos muestra la crueldad de su tragedia y cómo su titánica resiliencia la ha convertido en todo un símbolo.
